Over thirty years ago I fell in love with a breed that can do almost anything. Thus began the odyssey of Starlite Kennels, German Shorthaired Pointers, a breed that can do almost anything. This is the reason why they are known as a versatile, Continental breed. A properly bred dog will hunt any game, both fur and feather, track wounded animals, retrieve in water and even tree 'coons. They excel in all aspects of competition, not just in field events, but also conformation shows, agility, obedience and tracking. There are even successful search and rescue, bomb and drug sniffing and therapy dogs of this breed. This is a very intelligent, independent breed that doesn't take well to just sitting around, so they are not a breed for just anyone. In these thirty years, with very limited careful breeding, my dogs have accumulated numerous American and Canadian show titles, multiple specialty best of breed and class winners, field, obedience and agility titles as well as a GSPCA (German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America) Hall of Fame bitch. Some of my dogs have been nationally ranked in the top ten for our breed in shows, field and agility. I also bred and sent to Australia their first American breed Shorthair, "Hank the Yank", in 1977. Hank (Starlite's Greif von Kazia) lived to be 16 years old and due to his amazing production record, he is in the pedigrees of numerous field and show titled Shorthairs in countries all over the world (Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, France, New Caledonia, the Philippines and South Africa to name a few). Hank, as well as some of my other dogs, are written up in many history books of the breed. Hank's mom, Ch. Schatzi von Heiligsepp, CD, is even on the cover of one of these books. I began training for agility and some obedience with Sandy Reeves of North Idaho School of Dog Obedience eight years ago. Because of her exceptional knowledge of all types of dog behavior, her many years of professional training, and her positive motivational methods, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn under her and benefit from her incredible expertise and patience. I am also very honored that she has enough confidence in my ability as a dog trainer to assist her in teaching her beginner obedience classes. |
